STEPPS YP (Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving for Young People)
STEPPS YP (Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving for Young People) is a group treatment program for teens struggling with emotional intensity issues associated with a diverse range of mental health disorder diagnoses. This evidence-based educational program teaches individuals a variety of emotional and behavioral management skills. Group participants are encouraged to attend individual therapy along with STEPPS YP. This is a closed, in-person group that meets for two hours, once a week for 18 weeks, with an optional orientation session at the beginning.
New Group starting December 5th, 2024
Group Times: Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, starting with an orientation session.
Location: New Beginnings Counseling Service, 6200 Aurora Ave, Suite 103E, Urbandale, IA 50322
Eligibility Criteria:
Restricted to 14 years to 17 years in age with parental approval.
Significant struggles with managing intense emotions and resulting behaviors.
All participants must have a prescreening assessment completed by the time the groups start.
Participants are NOT required to be in therapy with New Beginnings, although it is recommended to be attending individual therapy in addition to this group.
Intake info:
Most health insurances cover STEPPS YP, including Medicaid and Medicare. Eligibility and co-pays (if any) will be determined case-by-case, check with your insurance provider.
Parents, please bring photo ID and insurance card.
